Foreclosures Caused By Rising Energy Costs

Almost every day, you hear the news reports about the increasing numbers of homes in foreclosure. But what you don't hear being reported is how rising energy costs are so regularly the reason for this devastating problem.

Are you on the verge of foreclosure and losing your home for the reason that you could not afford to pay your energy bills and your mortgage?  If you aren't facing foreclosure are you able to afford temperature settings that keep you feeling comfortable inside your home?

With the recent US housing boom, builders completed homes fast.  Interest rates were low and investors were eager to cash in on high returns on investments.  Unless you were informed about energy efficient home features and made sure included them during your home construction, chances are your new home wastes too much energy.  It's also possible you don't feel comfortable in your home as a result of uneven room temperatures, drafts, cold floors, etc.

Back in the days home air conditioning was considered a luxury.  Now it appears more like a necessity.  Standard temperatures in North America have increased over the last decades, remaining high for longer periods and forcing people to turn on air conditioners powered by electricity to survive too much exposure to heat.

States like Florida, Georgia, Arizona, California, Texas and New Mexico will be affected with the most hot climate throughout the year, especially when it gets close to summer season.  The energy costs during spring and summer will become much higher because the air conditioner will have to run for longer time so that it will stay at a temperature which is comfortable for people inside their home.  So the electricity bill will be much higher during that time, sometimes being twice as much as it would normally be.

To make matters worse, the electricity rate increases every certain amount of time.  This is why it is so important to have high efficiency electric equipment in your home, especially an AC Unit.  An AC unit still is the equipment with the highest energy consumption in the home.  When getting a central air conditioning unit, make sure it has a high SEER (seasonal energy efficiency
ratio)
rating.   It will cost you more, but you will be saving more in the long run.

Not only it would be a great idea for you to have a high efficiency air conditioning unit, but you will save even more if all your appliances were high efficiency as well.  Today they have much improved, energy efficiency appliances which can lower your monthly energy bill to half or even more.

The mortgage industry facing big losses from foreclosures is working with homeowners to decrease the monthly mortgage costs.  A reduction in mortgage costs might help, but this is only a temporary answer.  Moving to another home, unless it is energy efficient will not solve the problem.

People in homes may end up paying for their energy bills as much as higher than $300 per month for not having energy efficiency equipments in their homes.  This will definitely put a huge burden for a homeowner trying to pay for his/her monthly mortgage.  The best solution is to implement energy saving features in your home as fast as possible.  This will not only be good for you financially, it will also be good for the planet.
